After Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, fans consternation if it’s time for a name change
May 6, 2017 - Super Smash Bros
There’s a twitter going around that highlights a fundamental weirdness of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Playing as a non-Mario character, who drives a non-Mario-related kart, on a non-Mario lane is a totally genuine probability in this Mario-branded arcade racer. (In box you’re wondering: It’s Inkling Girl in a Blue Falcon kart about to competition around Hyrule Circuit.)
This isn’t specific to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a Nintendo Switch revamp of what was once a Wii U game. What’s opposite is that a game’s non-Mario characters and marks were sole alone as DLC on Wii U, giving them a choice to keep Mario Kart 8 a quite Mario-based experience, should they wish it to be.
The “Deluxe” in a Switch chronicle of a diversion refers to all a combined characters, karts and courses included by default. Anyone who skipped over a Wii U strange will start adult Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and be means to play as those classical Mario Kart characters … Inkling Girl, Link and Isabelle.
Most players are fans of accumulation and diversified rosters. It’s a large reason since Super Smash Bros. has gripped all of us over a years: We like to see all of Nintendo’s characters brew it adult in a same space. (One pivotal difference: Smash Bros. has also non-stop a doors to characters from other companies, that Mario Kart has nonetheless to do.) But fans are now popping a question: Should Nintendo start job Mario Kart for what it unequivocally is?
If they could make Super Smash Racing. I’d buy that for a switch in a heartbeat.

Nintendo Kart and Super Smash Kart — a many apparent due new names — don’t have that same kind of ring to them as Mario Kart does. Then again, maybe Mario Kart usually strikes us as familiar since we’ve been personification it for going on 25 years.
We have small faith that Nintendo would ever brave to chuck divided all that cachet it’s built adult with a Mario Kart brand. As for broadening a racer roster, though, Mario Kart 8 executive Kosuke Yabuki did contend he was open to it back in 2014.
“We’re always deliberation ways to make a Mario Kart games some-more appealing, yet we don’t consider that only augmenting a series of characters would make a diversion better,” he told Nintendo Life of a probable Super Smash Bros.-style chronicle of Mario Kart, forward of a Wii U game’s launch. “Of course, I’m not statute out a probability of such an proceed in a destiny though.”
These guest spots from The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing and Splatoon characters are something everybody would be down to see some-more of — consider of all a possibilities! — yet it does leave some players wondering only how distant Nintendo is peaceful to go with injecting a non-Mario into Mario games.
